Before Irish & Gordon’s incredible wedding day in Tuscany (which you can read about here), we made the most of being in Italy and set out early one morning to capture some seriously stunning sunrise portraits around Rome. From the Trevi Fountain to the Spanish Steps, with a well-earned espresso to finish, the shoot was exciting, stylish and the perfect way to warm up before the big day.

Rome at sunrise is a different city. The light is soft, the streets are quiet, and you get places like the Trevi Fountain almost to yourselves, which makes for much more relaxed, natural photos. If you’re planning a Rome engagement shoot or a pre-wedding session before a destination wedding in Italy, an early start is well worth it.

In summer this also helps avoid the heat as temperatures can already begin to soar by the early AM.
After our start at the fountain we walked the streets finding some unique angles and playing with all the gorgeous architecture. Even having some brief chats with some like Carabinieri (similar to the police) who were curious what we were doing up so early.

Soon we arrived at the Spanish Steps. Like most big cities, there is always something happening in Rome, especially in the Summer. Crowds were already forming around the fountains here even so early in the morning. Lucky for us though the steps themselves were fairly empty and with so much space there, it was easy to find some perfect angels and take our time as we made our way up to the top in search of some views over the city skyline.

The view from the top of the Spanish steps is stunning, so we made sure to spend some time taking it all in before heading off in search of some good espresso.

I also captured some 35mm film frames throughout the shoot as well. I always love the nostalgic and candid vibe these shots bring and they always end up being some of my favourite. I hope you enjoyed this read through and a look at some of my favourites from their engagement gallery.

Highlights from one incredible wedding day 🥂

I met Gaby in person at a wedding expo back in early 2025, and we hit it off straight away! She messaged me that day after the expo, saying she knew she wanted me to be her and Alex's wedding photographer, and then the rest is history. From a gorgeous New Years engagement shoot up at Burkes Lookout with their super cute pup Waffles, to the big wedding day in Spring 2026, the whole planning process was just so much fun and these two were just such a joy to photograph.
Enjoy a few highlights below from an absolutely stunning day up at Acacia Ridge in the Yarra Valley.

"These 5 ⭐️ stars could not describe how amazing Nick’s job was.
The Abbazia di San Galgano is a Gothic abbey dating back to the 13th century, now a beautiful open-air ruin where the stone walls still stand tall against the sky. There’s something that happens when you stand in a place that old. Everything quiets down, and every moment feels a little bigger than it would anywhere else.

It’s easily one of the most striking ceremony settings I’ve ever had the privilege of working in, and watching Irish and Gordon make it theirs was something special.

In the heart of the Tuscan countryside, Irish and Gordon’s wedding had the kind of setting you’d only expect to find in a film, and I was lucky enough to fly all the way from Australia to photograph every minute of it 🌻🇮🇹

The day began with some relaxed getting-ready moments at Villa Podernovo in the early afternoon, before a short, scenic drive through the countryside to the Abbazia di San Galgano: a Gothic, crumbling 13th-century abbey surrounded by fields of sunflowers and rolling Tuscan hills, and the perfect place for Irish and Gordon to say “I do”. Following a beautifully intimate ceremony (that not even a five-minute burst of summer rain could dampen), we roamed the grounds of the abbey and captured some of my favourite portraits ever. Back at the Villa, we caught a truly gorgeous sunset, and the celebrations kicked off in full swing with dancing, tiramisu and spritzes late into the night.

It was a wedding that was all parts sweet, sentimental and full of fun, and everything Irish and Gordon had dreamed it would be. I’m genuinely honoured to have captured a day as unique and special as this one. I hope you enjoy some of my favourite photos from the day as much as I enjoyed taking them (including some nostalgically magical shots on 35mm film 😌🎞️).

Getting Ready for the Day: The Gents

The day began with Gordon and his groomsmen getting ready together at the Villa (and all of us doing our best to escape the midday Italian summer heat). We kept this brief but fun with a few drinks in hand, and a quick lesson in driving a classic car on Italian roads as well.

Getting Ready for the Day: The Girls

No one was more excited for the day than Irish and her bridesmaids. There was a stunning dress, beautiful details and florals, and a cheeky glass of prosecco in hand to help calm the nerves. Between some very Vogue-worthy gown portraits and plenty of cute candid snaps as everyone got ready, the room was a happy mix of nerves, laughter and excitement. By the end of it, Irish was a vision and ready to head to the Abbey.

(During my 6 weeks in Spain & Italy for this season, Irish's walk down the Aisle was the only time it rained. If you ask us it just made her entrance even more magic)

Sunflowers & Sunsets

The Abbey provided one of the most picturesque backdrops I've been lucky enough to photograph. Irish & Gordon gave me their full trust in their wedding vision, so together with the wonderfully talented Alika & Rodrigo from Soma Filmes, and Irish & Gordon's ease of looking like models in front of the camera, we flew through these portraits and were back to celebrate at the Villa in no time. These are some of my favourite couples portraits I've ever captured and not just because of all the wonderful memories attached to them, I really think they are just that stunning.

Sunset at Villa Podernovo

As the sun set we made our way back to Villa Podernovo, soaking up all the rolling views and golden light Tuscany had to offer. Every direction we turned there was another picture-perfect scene waiting to happen and another moment worth capturing. It was everything you’d dream of if you were planning a wedding in Tuscany.

Once the light had faded, the celebrations truly kicked off: tiramisu served by the slice, champagne towers, and dancing with Aperol spritzes in hand, late into the night. Add in some great speeches, delicious food and a seriously talented bit of dancing from Irish and Gordon, and it was the kind of party that nobody wanted to end.

(When I tell you this was the best tiramisu I’ve ever had, you’ll really have to take my word for it.)

I also couldn't resist taking some 35mm film portraits across their wedding day as well, trying to capture some in between and truly candid moments. There's a nostalgic, dreamy quality to film that suits a place like Tuscany perfectly and some of these frames ended up being my favourite from across the day.

The ceremony took place beneath tall palm trees, with the ocean stretching out behind them. Nothing felt overdone or staged. Just two people, surrounded by their closest friends and family, exchanging vows in a place that felt deeply personal to them and their relationship. Tuey wore a stunning Hacchic Couture dress, Romain looked effortlessly sharp, and together they set the tone for the entire day. Intimate, joyful, and full of warmth.

On a sunny spring afternoon, Natalie and Tim said their vows surrounded by loved ones and the breathtaking views of the Victorian countryside. Their wedding day was a perfect blend of laughter, romance, and heartfelt moments that will be cherished forever.

The couple had a clear vision for their wedding, and every element of the day reflected their unique personalities and love for each other. The ceremony took place in a picturesque garden, where the couple exchanged heart-string tugging vows under the clear blue sky. Their promises of forever were followed by a beautiful marquee reception that overlooked the serene surrounds of the Victorian countryside.

The reception was a delightful affair filled with laughter, romance, and the warmth that only a wedding can bring. The marquee was beautifully decorated, with the stunning panorama of the countryside forming a perfect backdrop for their celebration of love. The guests enjoyed the delicious food and drinks, while the couple basked in the happiness of their special day.

As the evening descended, the newlyweds and I took a short drive to a secluded forest garden nearby. Here, we captured some stunning couple portraits as the sun set, adding to the dreamy effect of their extraordinary day. It was a fitting end to a day that was filled with love, joy, and unforgettable moments.

The wedding was made even more special by the efforts of a fantastic team of vendors. Tracey Basham coordinated the event, ensuring that everything ran smoothly. The beauty team from Lavish Hair and Beauty Salon and Gloss Makeup Beauty Studio made sure that Natalie looked radiant on her big day. The Potted Cumquat added to the wedding's beauty with their stunning floral arrangements, while The Cake Cottage Albury created a beautiful cake for the couple. Michele Seymour Catering provided the delicious food, and Celestial Entertainment kept the guests entertained throughout the event. Cozza Coffee Van offered a unique touch with their coffee service, and Watercolour Weddings captured the day's events in a beautiful painting.

Congratulations to the lovely couple, and thank you for letting me be a part of your special day.

"We were beyond thrilled with the exceptional service provided by Nick! From the moment we first met, his professionalism and passion for his craft shone through, and it only got better from there.
On our special day, Nick brought an incredible energy that added to the joyous atmosphere. He effortlessly captured every precious moment, from the heartfelt exchanges of vows to the exuberant celebrations on the dance floor. His ability to blend into the background while still managing to capture the essence of the day was truly remarkable. Working with Nick was an absolute pleasure, and we cannot recommend him highly enough."

Sherridan & Jordan

"We had the most wonderful experience with Nick as our wedding photographer and would strongly recommend him to anyone considering him for their special day. We found Nick to be very reasonably priced and extremely clear on the process. He is also friendly, very easy to work with and a lot of fun. Above all, the quality of Nick's work is outstanding. You only have to check out his insta page to see this. We appreciated that Nick took some time to get to know us as a couple before the wedding day and we think this gave him a sense of what we wanted to get out of the photos."

Cameron & Nick

"Nick has been super easygoing since the moment I reached out to him. He took the time to set up a Zoom meeting so he could learn more about our wedding and the styles we are looking for. He was super organised, and he even offered suggestions for our run sheet! On the day. I liked how he gave us cues during the photoshoot so we felt less awkward (lol). We received lots of compliments about how stunning the photos were. He also took lots of photos of our guests, so we had something to share with them after the wedding. Nick's photos are exactly the styles that we like, not to mention the wedding film that we received makes us feel like superstars! If anyone is looking for a wedding photographer, I would highly recommend Nick!🧡"

"Where do we begin!

Nick and his amazing crew went beyond our expectations (the photos are only the beginning) genuinely making our special day everything we could of asked for and more.

Nick was incredibly hands on, especially throughout the build up to our wedding day.

Frequently in communication, visiting the site, planning where moments would be captured.

Nick literally wrote our entire wedding schedule out for us that went to plan as smooth as ever!

Even sneaking in some sunset photos which are some of my favourites.

One of our friends in the bridal party was so impressed by the way nick and his crew were on the day, chilled, calm, easy going, that after she booked them for her wedding too! The proof is in the pudding!"

A supposed engagement party turned surprise wedding with Janay & Daniel leaving all their partygoers smiling ear to ear and happily teary eyed as they said their "I Do's" at the vibrant Kenny Lover in Thornbury. With Ice Cream, Hot Chips and Prosecco by the bottle, this day was incredible and not one anyone will forget anytime soon. I could write on and on but I'll let their film and photographs do the heavy lifting, click the link through to watch their incredible day unfold and I hope you love it as much as we do!
